 
Mission
Incorporated in 1988, Chinese Family Services
of Ontario (CFSO) is a non-profit, charitable,
professional family services agency with a focus
on Chinese Canadians. Our ultimate goal is to
offer both linguistically and culturally
sensitive counselling and family services that
will enhance the functioning and enrich the
quality of life of individuals and families.
Chinese Family Services of Ontario is funded
by various levels of governments, United Way of
Greater Toronto and community donations.
CFSO is staffed by a team of professionals in
the disciplines of social work and counselling
psychology. Our staff consists of Bachelor and
Master’s level social workers who have been
registered with the Ontario College of Social
Workers and Social Service Workers and
counsellors who hold Masters and Ph.D. Degrees
in Psychology and Certified Gambling
Counsellors.
Services
1. Individual/Couple/Family Counselling
We provide counselling and therapy to
individuals, couples, and families who have
diverse life concerns. These concerns may
include self-confidence, education, dating,
career, parenting, interpersonal or
intergenerational relationships, or more
emotional aspects of one’s life. We help clients
to identify their concerns and problems, develop
strategies to cope and address their issues, and
we do so in a respectful, empathetic manner. Our
ultimate goal is to help clients deal with life
situations more effectively and grow towards a
harmonious family life.
2. Family Life Education
We provide community education through
mass media and organize educational
workshops/activities on issues of parenting,
marriage enrichment, and stress management,
etc.

Violence Against Women Program
The program stresses the importance of
women’s safety and protection. Its aim is to
empower women to pursue and maintain a safe and
secure living environment, and to support them
in making choices in achieving a more fulfilling
life. In addition to individual & group
counselling services, we also provide
information and referrals, crisis intervention
and case management.
4. Domestic Violence Intervention Program
for Men
Individual and group therapies are provided
for perpetrators who have problems with abusive
behaviour in their personal relationships and
family life at some point or other in the past.
The program design is geared toward developing
healthy and positive ways of dealing with life
situations and anger control, etc.
5. Counselling Services for probationers and
ex-offenders
Individual & group counselling for
probationers and ex-offenders and their family
members. To help them to adjust well to the
community and learn a better coping skills.
6. Program for Problem Gamblers and their
Families
We provide counselling for individuals,
groups and their families who suffer from and/or
are affected by a gambling addiction.
7. Program for Drug & Alcohol Abusers and
their Families
Individual, group, and family therapies are
provided for those affected by a dependence on
drugs and/or alcohol.

Youth Services Program
Our youth program called LEGACY – “Leadership
Encouraging Growth and Cohesiveness in Youths” –
helps youths between the ages of 14 and 24 to
meet the challenges of their education, peer and
family relationships, and future careers.
9. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender
Program
To provide counselling services to lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender and their family
members.
10. Consultation and Liaison
We maintain liaison and advocacy in our
community network, consultation and professional
sharing of knowledge/skills with other human
service providers.
11. Employee Assistance Program
We provide counselling for employees of local
businesses and corporations who experience
personal, family and work-related concerns.
12. Internship/Field Practicum
We offer social work and psychology students
a broad spectrum of practical, hands-on
experiences for them to learn the skills
involved in being a professional in their
respective fields.
13. Family Life Education Resource Centre
The centre serves as a venue for parents,
professional workers and the public to make use
of family life resource materials such as books,
research reports, information leaflets and
audio-visual materials.
